a finite exercise in “here goes nothing”

     but we treat it like it’s everything

a string of decisions under duress

an experiment in which we’ll defend mistakes with our every fiber

a mad dash toward a finish line we don’t want to cross

this collection of absurdities we’re expected to take seriously

     this repetition of shocking madness

          this wonderment of aching beauty

               this terrible coaster of ecstacy
