Series Description:
Verses from South Jersey
A poetry collection by Anthony Simeone
"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.
To quote from Whitman, 'O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?' The answer: that you are here. That life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?"
- John Keating, Dead Poets Society
Category/Genre(s): PoetryAuthor Bio For Anthony Simeone:
Anthony Simeone lives and writes in the shadow of the great city of Philadelphia. In addition to crafting fiction, he also speaks and blogs about the fields of positive psychology and heroism science. When he's not putting fingers to keyboard, Anthony spends his time with family and friends, or in the nearest forested area, or with his nose in a book. Sometimes all at once.
Notes:
Poetry is mainstreamed metaphor.
It is a weapon of the subconscious.
It is obscure because the worries of the world want to put you to sleep. Poetry forces you to wake up, ponder, and question.
It is someone cracking open their chest so you can study their still-beating heart.
It is not a form of deception, but it has tricked many.
It is the honest truth of what someone has felt in a brief moment of time.
It is a means to say what has been said countless times by countless mouths, but in a way that no one has said it before.
It is just a collection of words that might destroy your world, but maybe you needed or deserved that apocalypse of one.
