Heavenly Cock (China)

The Heavenly Cock is also called the Bird of Dawn. It has golden feathers and three legs and lives in a large tree in the Land of the Sun. The cock crows three times a day. First, in the morning, when the sun is taking a bath in the horizon by the sea; second, at noon, when the sun is the highest; and third, in the evening, when the sun sets. He is the father of the Yang, or male principle of the universe, and the ancestor of all cocks. In addition, he is capable of producing eggs himself without a female, and the young cocks that emerge sing with him every morning.
