Chapter 1

Bella is a young girl who is growing up in the Panhandle of Florida. She has always been a curious little girl. Marley is Bella's American Pitbull and her best friend. Bella and Marley have been together since Bella was 2 years old and Marley was a puppy. Bella's Dad had given Marley to Bella so that they could grow up together and form a special bond.

Bella's Grandmother had told Bella about American History ever since Bella was a baby. Bella loved to hear the stories her Grandmother would tell her about specific events in History. She was always amazed at how detailed the stories were. Her Grandmother told these stories as if she had witnessed them first hand. The details of each story were exciting, with the most vivid details.

One long Summer day, Bella and Marley decided to explore an old shed on the edge of her Grandmother's farm. The shed had been there ever since Bella could remember but no-one ever went into the shed. It was old and rustic but looked sturdy and strong.

There was no lock on the shed door, just an old wooden latch that opened with ease. Bella opened up the large door and stepped inside. As usual, Marley was right behind her. The sun shone in through the open door and revealed the contents of the old shed.

Standing at the very back of the old shed was an antique chifforobe. There was nothing else inside the old shed. The chifforobe was very tall, wide, and had only one door on it.

Bella, being the curious adventurer she was, walked directly to the large door and opened it up. She was amazed at what she saw. Although the large, old chifforobe looked like a piece of furniture on the outside, the inside looked like the inside of an airplane. There was a bench-seat, a shiny silver panel with numerous knobs, buttons, gauges, and electric devices.

Bella knew this was something out of the ordinary. Marley seemed to know that as well. Marley began to lightly whimper. Bella patted Marley on the head.

"It's ok, girl. This thing can't hurt us. Grandmother would not have anything around her house that could harm us. Relax," Bella said as she soothed Marley's hair back down flat.

Bella stepped inside the great, wooden box. Marley stepped in as well. As Bella started to sit down on the bench-seat, Marley jumped up beside her. The large box was quite roomy for the small pair.

As Bella studied the silver panel in front of her, she started to make out some of the old, worn words engraved on the knobs and buttons. One had the word DATE on it. Another had the word LOCATION on it. She began to turn the knobs and push the buttons but nothing happened. However, after pushing one large button on the far left side of the panel, things changed.

The large button on the left lit up with a red light and several other buttons flashed on. Before Bella or Marley could move, the door closed on its own and the wooden box started to make odd noises. Bella looked back at the panel next to the knobs labeled DATE and LOCATION and saw the panel now lit up the name of a location and a date:

1538-Florida

Marley began to whimper. Bella felt the chill of excitement rush through her. The box-like machine lightly shook, went dark, and remained eerily quiet for several minutes. Nether Marley nor Bella moved. After several minutes, the machine again shook lightly and the lights came back on. Marley and Bella sat very still, amazed at what they saw.

The wooden box from Grandma's shed was no longer there. Neither was the shed, or anything Bella recognized. Bella and Marley were sitting inside a clear bubble-shaped machine. Bella had no idea where they were or how they got there. All she could tell was that she and Marley were now in a lush, tropical area that looked untouched by humans.

After calming her thoughts, Bella found a handle next to the seat she was sitting on and pulled it up, opening a small door for her and Marley to exit. Bella stepped out of the clear ball. She called for Marley to jump out as well. Marley was resistant. However, she finally caved and jumped out next to her best friend.

Bella and Marley surveyed their surroundings. Nothing looked familiar. The thick, lush, jungle had a tropical feel and Bella could see the tree-line and the ocean in the distance. She decided to head to the beach.
