"So this time, it's shoot first, questions later?" Johannes asked.

"Most emphatically."

"Good."

Schmidt held up a single stubby finger. "I am, of course, assuming you have the correct bullets loaded into your pistol?"

Johannes nodded glumly. "The non-lethal ones."

"Then fire when ready, good man."

"I thought I'd open the door first."

Schmidt resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Johannes was a good partner, but rather literal at times. "Of course." He gestured to the door. "After you."
