One of the two pieces was definitively a carving of a wolf of the sort I have seen in this part of the world--rather small and rangy, but possessed of a thick coat suitable to the winters in this region.

The second piece appears to be a strange admixture of man and wolf, perhaps meant to resemble the legendary Wendigo, who is prominent in this part of the world. The stature is that of a man, standing upright, but the entire body is covered in fur, and the head is that of a wolf.

My eye for details suggests these were carved by the same individual, and they seem, on the whole, more sophisticated than the pieces carved by the local tribesman.
