In the deep recesses of my mind,

thoughts come, memories surface,

and emotions overflow like a turbulent river.

Memories, cruel and beautiful, tear at my heart,

each one a bittersweet reminder.

Feeling it, as if time hasn't passed,

my heart aches with the weight of  it all,

while my mind meticulously counts the distance in days, months, years...

Quietly slipping by.
