CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Garrett could hardly get his car to work. It had been years since he'd driven in a manually driven car instead of an automatic. The town still looked the way he imagined. Of course it would, though. If this was a dream then this town was all out of memory. He climbed out of the car and opened the front door of the restaurant. Cool air welcomed him. He forgot how hot it could get in his town. It didn't take long for him to spot Ember. She was busy serving patrons, that same expression on her face that she always had while they worked at the restaurant. She used to call it the order-something-fast-while-I’m-still-in-a-good-mood look. She was really trying to look friendly even though it was the last place she wanted to be.
