 “What’s wrong?” Mikey said. “You’re acting so different.”

“How different?” Emmy asked.

“Distant.”

“No I’m not.”

“But are you sure everything’s okay?”

“Yeah, everything’s fine.”

He gave her a look of concern.

She smiled at him.

“I promise.”

But she knew she was lying. Over the couple of weeks a wall had been growing between them. And even though she felt it and a part of her was worried about it, she’d become so fixated over Simon that she could hardly focus on it.
