There is something different about dad. And it’s not just that for the first time in months he’s all dressed up in full combat gear, dark gray suit and an iridescent tie. It’s the way he piles up his notes, meticulous bordering on obsessive. It’s the sparkle in his eyes; of thrill, of action, of resolution. It’s the way his straight back makes him look way taller than he really is. Intimidating and comforting at once, both authoritative and authoritarian, someone who knows what he is doing and will not waver or bend in front of anything or anyone.


At the same time, there is something different about the way I see him. Maybe all my years working as a lawyer taught me not to let myself be intimidated, maybe I’m just not anymore the child who stared at her success...
