Today I feel all sorts of things

None of which causes me to think I have wings

I find it ironic that we look to other animals to explain

Our moods or ways of behaving

I’m as strong as a lion

I feel free as a bird

How would we know how any of those animals feel?

My human feelings are raging through me

Uncontrolled and raw

Our nation is erupting

I feel grief as a human

Sadness when I see oppression

When I see injustice, I feel anger like a human being

I cry tears like a human mother

I laugh like a sister or a neighbor

There’s nothing animalistic about me

Why should there be

When type O- blood runs through my veins

I could free...
