Supper was a big deal at Kate’s house.  They were supposed to sit down when their mother called, pray, eat a nutritious meal and have meaningful conversation.  It had usually been a comfort to Kate, but now that she’d slept with Lucas, it was uncomfortable.

“Kate,” asked her father, “tell us about your day.” 

Should she start with daydreaming about Lucas or stalking him throughout town?   “It was okay, I guess.  Nothing special.  I went for a walk.”

“That’s nice, honey.  Could you pass the beans?  How was work, Sybille?”

“It was slammed!  I had this one customer who kept sending back his french fries.  First they were too cold, then they weren’t crispy enough...
