“Tell me I’m fabulous,” said Sophie. She’d dropped in between appointments and sat at our kitchen table ignoring the large pile of half-cut fabric I had sprawled there. She could see I was working but I’d have to listen to her awesomeness before she’d move on to her next client viewing and let me continue to make up the personalised bunting commission I’d taken via the online shop.

“You’re fabulous. Would you like a cup of tea? No cookies. I’m doing the groceries later.” I flicked on the kettle and found a clean mug drying on the draining board.
