aid of flashlights, and it had all been cordoned off. There was nothing more Samuel could do there, and he was walking back to his car as he considered the cases.

Music wafted on the air from the club he was passing. The night had come to life, with live bands taking the stage all over the city. And a question occurred to Samuel:

What had the victims been doing at the bars and clubs before they disappeared?

If all eleven men had visited the same club, that would have made the answer clearer, but they hadn't. Some had only gone drinking while others had roamed from the Marigny to Uptown, checking out several different places. But what if one unseen factor connected all those places?

This would take extensive legwork. Then again, better to do legwork than stumble into a vampire den.
