It took the United States many decades to create a system that has caused endemic trade deficits and increasing inequality. We can change this system and reverse the trend of inequality by enacting legislation, by executive orders, by state and local governments taking action and by the personal behavior of many Americans and businesses. Americans can vote with their wallets for U.S.-made products. But consumer action alone will not accomplish a reversal in the riding tide of inequality.
