Many directors sit on multiple boards. For example, Erskine Bowles, a co-chair of President Barack Obama’s deficit com-mission, has collected millions of dollars sitting on corporate boards. Bowles, a Morgan Stanley and GM board member, also sat on the boards of Krispy Kreme, Norfolk Southern and Facebook.

Shirley Jackson is on the boards of FedEx, Medtronic,

Marathon Oil Company, NYSE Euronext, Public Service Enterprise Group and IBM. She earned $4,092,664 from 2008-2010 for sitting on these six boards. In 2013 alone, according to Forbes, she earned $1.129 million for her participation on four boards.
