Sam floated down a bright corridor. His eyes were covered with some kind of cloth, but bright light still washed through. His head felt huge, but he couldn’t sense any other part of his body.

That didn’t seem right.

He tried to move, to sit up, to take the cloth off his eyes, but nothing worked the way he wanted it to.

He panicked, but felt no answering spike in his heaert rate, and that made his fear rise even higher.

“Pulse spiking,” said a worried voice at his left side.

Bizarrely enough, that made Sam feel a bit better. His body was stil lhere, and still somewhat functional, even if he couldn’t feel it.

“What’s happening?” he said.

Or at least, that’s what he meant to say. What his ears registered...
