Silence stretched between us.  Only sounds came from the sporadic gunfire outside.  Hell, if a bird landed in a tree, we would have heard it.  It was Robert’s move.  No doubt Anna was beginning to put the pieces together.  That I was supposed to kill her.  That she wasn’t supposed to be holding onto me.  That whatever we had was never meant to happen.  All I needed was a gun in my hand.  Then I would be one step closer to completing that assignment.  Robert started laughing.  “You really think I’m stupid enough to allow a gun in your hand when you just said that you wanted to kill me?”  I stayed still.  “I have a better idea.  Samuel?”  Dropping my hand, my eyes went to him.  “Come here.”
