i swim out of sleep
with it in my mind
like bait cast down
to bring me up

the fist of my subconscious
close tight around it until
somehow
the world of light and logic
seeps in

it repeats like a mantra
and has no particular
association
save to bring me safely
from the madness of dreams
i cannot remember
