‘We had better advance’.

Severianus kicked his horse into movement and the troops began their march to Virconium. Germanus’s men had taken some convincing to join forces with the Bishop of Eboracum. Only when he quoted from the agreement between the two bishops about fighting the Vortigern as a common enemy did the combined British, Armorican and Roman soldiery submit to the command of Severianus. But then it turned out that the two armies had men with common bonds: Briton with Briton, Armorican with Briton, Roman with Briton. Some of the older soldiers had served together in the final days of the Roman Army in Britannia and Gallia. A number were even related.
