A smirk accompanied Sigmund’s rhetorical question.

“You said two things.” I pushed, less amused than my cousin.

The mention of the woman in the gold dress conjured the memory of her face. The terror in her eyes as Durabas flayed her flesh. I could never un-see that look, or forget how her pleas for him to spare her life, became prayers to God for death.  

She screamed until she had no voice. Anita Hamilton died hard. Lachlan was right, I’d say no just to spite him.

“I was wrong.” He spoke softly. “When I spoke to you of your mother’s possession, there was something else I suspected at the time but remained silent on the matter. Because of the unlikely situation, I wanted to be certain.”

“What?” I demanded....
