he grabbed the heathen artefact from her hands.

“You’re wrong,” he replied. “You have to see that. You’re wrong about so many things. God gave us one life, just one. This ‘good life’ you’re so worried about, we only have one chance to live it, and most of us will fail. Death is coming for us all, and when it finds us all the prayers to all the gods in all the world will do nothing to bring us back.”

He turned away from her, spared T’shan a curt nod, and with the memory of what he had seen in the Gateway still weighing on his thoughts he made his way solemnly from the dell, back towards the thousands of people still sleeping innocently and unsuspectingly in the town below.
