“It was special,” came her crisp voice. “Magical you might even say. The mountains were always white with snow, and they were so high that their heads rarely peaked out through the clouds. The forests were so thick you could lose yourself in them, and so full of life that you’d see something new every day. The air was cold and fresh. And the coasts… they stretched on forever, black beaches assaulted by an endless barrage of waves, and soaring jagged cliffs looking down over a grey ocean.”

He glanced across at her. She was still gazing upwards, but her eyes had glazed over as though the stars above were far from her thoughts.

“And since then you’ve never found anywhere you truly loved,” he observed.
