“What happened to you inside the Centre?” Nathaniel asked.

Joshua took in another wheezy breath and sighed lightly. He turned back to the window and looked up towards the sky outside.

“Stars,” he mused. “I haven’t seen them for so long. The moon will be up soon as well. For the first time in a hundred years its light will flood the city.”

Nathaniel grew impatient.

“What’re we going to do?” he asked. “The people have to be told that they’re still in danger.”
