Chapter 9

   Alice walked into the house, her schoolbooks in hand.  Hello, Mama, she said, giving her mother a kiss on the cheek.

   “Hello, Alice,” Delia said, as she snapped some raw green beans and pulled the strings from them. 

   “rrRRRRRGGGGggg, rrRRRRRGGGGgggg,” the phone jangled.

   Alice set her books down on the kitchen table and walked over to where the phone hung on the wall and picked up the handset. “Hello, Shea residence,” she answered. 

   “I'd like to speak to Miss Shea, please,” a voice that sounded just like Dennis asked over the phone.
