The men walked into the house as Ida was setting food on the table.  Isaac took in a long whiff and smiled contentedly, satisfyingly.  He helped Ida set two cups for coffee on the table by their places and two full glasses of milk.

     “We’ve got one more for lunch, Ida.”

     “Well, not lunch exactly,” started Aaron.  “Just coffee.”

     “One cup of kaffi comin up.”

     They all sat down at the table and Ida passed slices of ham, mashed potatoes and butter, pickles, and biscuits, to Isaac across the table.  He handed each one back to her for her to take helpings.  She poured coffee all around, and Aaron sipped on his,...
