(Not) A Bag in the Water

We are both fascinated by marinelife and share a love for the ocean. We first snorkelled together in Cuba, on a group excursion to a reef. Once in the water, we all spread out to explore on our own.


Through the lens of my underwater camera, I saw the shimmer of a floating plastic bag. In one quick angry motion, I reached out to grab it, ashamed that humans continue to pollute the oceans.


But it was not a bag. It was a jellyfish.


I immediately popped up and realized we were the only two left in the water. The remainder of the group were back on the boat, yelling “Medusa” and waving us in. Swimming over to him, I worried that more were lurking nearby.
