Our Canadian East Coast vacation was also our first road trip together. We stopped in four provinces and, seeking different experiences, booked an eclectic mix of accommodations.


Only one night was planned in a quaint, working farmhouse in PEI. The family would provide a room, tours and a hearty breakfast. Things, we discovered, were not as advertised.


We arrived and found a for-sale sign posted on the front lawn. The farm had completely shut down. The only person living in the dilapidated house, was the rickety old woman who directed us to the top of the long narrow staircase.


Our tiny room contained only a small squeaky bed and dozens of terrifying Anne dolls. After a sleepless night, we packed up early, hoping to leave without breakfast, but she insist...
