Arrin anxiously awaited Peter’s reaction, hoping it wouldn’t be like Tom’s. He didn’t know if his newborn faith could withstand such a weighty trial so soon.

Peter smiled. “There’s no need to ask for forgiveness. I’ve never held any of it against you, not even the threat you made on my life in Hasden.”

Tracine snuggled closer to Peter in appreciation of his forgiveness, triggering intense jealousy on Arrin’s part, which he again had difficulty suppressing.

“So—is it possible for us to be friends again?” he asked, fearing the answer would be no. Forgiving someone and wanting to spend time with them after they’d hurt you were two different things, after all.
