Over the next three weeks Tracine, Peter, and Pastor Willis visited Arrin at least twice a week. But when he consistently refused to acknowledge them, keeping his back to them, they gave up and stopped coming. After that, Arrin descended into a black depression. He refused to eat or drink unless he was threatened by Cody and Logan. After his ankle cast was removed, he often sat on the floor in a corner of his cell for hours unmoving with his knees pulled up to his chest, arms crossed over his knees, and his face buried in his arms.

At the end of his year of confinement the Council let Arrin move back into his house. He accepted the change in his living conditions without emotion, nor did he react when Logan returned his treasured watch or when Cody snapped a tracking circlet around...
