Tom looked into Arrin's bag. On the top of the backpack lay a police issue RZ50. Tom stared at it, afraid to even touch it, knowing the penalty for illegal possession of a police laser was stiff, until he realized no one would ever know he’d touched it. He pulled out the RZ50, set it on the floor, and continued to paw through Arrin’s personal possessions. To his relief, he found nothing else illegal, just a couple of changes of clothes and a large amount of the money he’d stolen from the Bank of Hasden. He zipped up the backpack, picked up the RZ50, came to his feet and turned around, and startled at sight of Arrin standing in the entry from the hall to the living room, arms crossed, staring at him with those dark eyes of his that could sometimes be so disconcerting, like they were now....
