Tracine spoke, breaking the hard glare Tom and Arrin were sharing. “Then we’ll wait here until your friend’s god works everything out, and then we’ll join you in New Hope.” It was obvious she didn’t believe it would ever happen.

Arrin too was certain it would never happen, but he played along for her sake. “I look forward to it.”

Tracine played along too, and forced a smile. “Are you still leaving in the morning?” Despite her best effort to remain calm, her voice quivered.

“Yes.” Arrin looked to Tom.  “All right with you?”

“Yes. I need a good night’s rest before I hit the road again anyway.”

Arrin nodded. “Tracine, could you fix us some of your tasty hot chocolate?”
