Arrin grabbed McFarland’s left arm, jabbed his laser into the small of the officer’s back, and propelled him across the room to the door. He pushed the door open a few inches to look out, keeping the laser at his hostage’s back. He’d surmised Officer McFarland was alone. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have surrendered so easily, but it wouldn’t hurt to make certain of it/

There were no other vehicles in the parking lot other than McFarland’s Snowcat and his SUV. “Move out.” Arrin shoved McFarland through the door.

“If you let me go and turn yourself in, it will go better for you than if you’re caught holding me prisoner,” McFarland said as he stumbled through the deep snow. “I’ll even testify you didn’t put up a fight.”
