Arrin turned to face Tom. “I should’ve never asked Clayton to call Pastor Willis. I knew it was a foolish impulse.”

“On the contrary. The call was a good thing. It led me to you.”

“As I said.”

Tom sighed in exasperation. “We only want you back home before you come to harm.”

Arrin shook his head. “You want me back in New Hope so the colony won’t be held responsible for any more of my crimes, having let me escape.”

“The thought never crossed my mind, although to be honest it is something to consider. That’s not why I came looking for you, though. It was as I said, out of concern for your welfare. Others care about you too, at least a dozen of us. We’re praying for you every day.”
