Arrin set his gun on the couch beside him and dressed, all the while keeping an eye on Ron and Clayton in case they made any threatening moves. He tucked the gun into the waist of his jeans beneath his shirt, even though he knew it was an unsafe practice. But he felt much safer with a weapon nestled against his skin. When he came to his feet in preparation for leaving, dizziness overcame him again. He bowed his head and placed the palm of his hand on the wall beside the couch for support until the dizziness passed. “I’ll have my jacket and be on my way now,” he then said.

“As I’ve already told you and you’ve just proven, you’re in no condition for walking,” Clayton said. “You can hardly stand. How do you expect to go hiking through the woods?”...
