“Arrin’s in surgery," the nurse said. "His condition worsened early this morning, so Dr. Finch decided to operate to relieve some pressure on the brain. They took him away about half an hour ago. You can wait for news in the surgery waiting room.”

“Where is that?”

“Go down this hall, turn left, pass the radiology department, and follow the signs. You’ll find Seamus there.”

“Thank you, ma’am.”

Tom raced down the hall, but he was in such an anxious, muddled state he forgot the directions the nurse had given him, took several wrong turns, and had to backtrack twice.
