Pastor Willis came to his feet. “I’m sorry if you didn’t like what I said, but I only told you the truth. It was time someone did.” He left the room.

“Arrin—,” Peter began.

Arrin stabbed his finger in Peter’s chest. “Don’t say another word or I’ll throw you out too.”

Peter knocked Arrin’s hand away. “There’s no need. I’m leaving.” He stormed from the room.

Arrin returned to his piano, but he was so choked with frustration instead of playing he ended up banging on the keys in a rage before slamming the lid down and kicking the bench halfway across the room, after which he stood at the window and stared gloomily out at the darkness that mirrored his mood.
