The first of Arrin's new guard companions was a tall, muscular man ten years older than Arrin at thirty-four, with a broad smile, flaming red hair, and gray eyes in a freckled face. He held out his hand. “Glad to meet you, Arrin, I’m Seamus McGee. I know we’ll be friends.”

“That remains to be seen,” Arrin said, refusing to shake Seamus’ hand. He’d never been friends with his guards before and didn’t even think it was possible.

Seamus merely shrugged and dropped his hand, not the least disconcerted by Arrin’s refusal to shake it.
