Arrin defended himself as best he could, but there were too many of them at once, and already weak from lack of food and water, he eventually found himself unable to protect himself from the relentless blows.
His last thought as he lay with his face buried in the sand before he lost consciousness was that although this wasn’t how he’d planned to end his life, it was death nonetheless, and perhaps more fitting for someone like him than the easy and somewhat pleasant exit he’d had in mind.
God must be pleased.
