“Hm,” Peter said.

Arrin frowned. What did “Hm” mean? Was it good? Bad? “Do you still wish to be my friend?”

“Yes, of course. Nothing has changed in that respect.”

Tears filled Arrin’s eyes, spilled out, ran down his cheeks, and the next moment, to his embarrassment, he was sobbing and couldn’t stop.

Peter started to place a comforting hand on his shoulder, but remembered Arrin didn’t like to be touched and withdrew his hand. He sat beside Arrin in silence offering the comfort of his acceptance, which Arrin appreciated more than he could say.
