Arrin instantly disliked Lars and not because the man had ruined his musical reverie. He turned away, refusing to shake the man’s hand, and made eye contact with Peter, who was standing in the doorway. Here was a man who was always patient with him no matter how poorly he treated him in return. He owed Peter much for that alone, and part of what he owed him was the truth. He threaded his way through the now disseminating crowd to Peter.

“Could we go for a walk? I need to talk.”

Peter was both surprised and pleased Arrin was reaching out to him at last. “Sure!” he exclaimed a bit too enthusiastically. Arrin didn’t seem to notice, but he toned down his response anyway. “Where would you like to go?”
