Arrin leaned toward Peter. “Don’t you understand I could’ve killed you out there in an instant if I’d wanted to?”

Peter’s mouth went dry. He took a sip of juice. “You didn’t, and that’s the end of it as far as I’m concerned.”

Once again Arrin was at the receiving end of grace, and at a loss as to how to respond. Why didn’t these people yell at him and beat him like everyone else? He cursed, shoved his chair back, and escaped from Peter and the discomfort of not knowing how to react.

Once he was in the privacy of his room and behind the closed door, he bowed his head and grieved for all he’d lost and all he could never have.
