By late afternoon Arrin’s headache had abated to the point where he could ignore it, so he wandered downstairs to the game room at the back of the house and took a seat at the white baby grand piano tucked away in a corner. He ran his fingers experimentally up and down the keyboard and discovered although the piano was old, it was perfectly tuned. He’d had a grand piano in his house—of much better quality than this one—and he now realized how much he’d missed playing it. He launched into a piano sonata by Joseph Hayden and became so completely immersed in the piece it was only when Peter and several others clapped at the end he became aware they were there.
