Arrin lay on his back on the hull in complete exhaustion, wasting precious seconds better used to save Robert’s life.

Chad leaned over Robert in concern. “I don’t think he’s breathing,” he said, sounding panicked. “What do we do? Do you know CPR? Because I don’t.”

With an effort Arrin forced himself to sit up, and then began CPR on Robert, counting off under his breath as he pressed on Robert’s chest. “One and two and three and four…” He reached the count of thirty, but still Robert failed to breathe on his own. “Come on, Robert,” Arrin panted in his native language while still continuing the CPR. “I’m not taking responsibility for your death. I’ve done my part. Now do yours.”
