A month had passed since Arrin had slashed his wrists, during which his improved behavior had convinced everyone he wouldn’t try hurting himself again. The restraints had been off since last week, and today Pastor Willis was coming to take him to his permanent residence in the single men’s dorm.

He stood at the window looking out, as he waited for the Pastor’s arrival, reflecting on their daily conversations over the last few weeks. He’d learned many useful facts from those conversations; among them that escape from New Hope would be ridiculously easy since they had only the two law officers who weren’t even on duty 24/7.
