CHANNILLO
The Scarlet
By Benjamin Gibson

Series Description:

No great empire is built in a day.  No great empire falls in one, either, and the years of falling are filled with pretenders to its inheritance and would-be protectors of its legacy.

Fifty-three moons circle above the scattered nations fighting to become heir to a world that was lost, clans who believe they've turned their backs on it, and the Cavalry, the only group that can trace a direct lineage to the final days of the First World.

With a war between the two great remaining nations entering its final, bloody days, Cavalry Captain Rin Nakano is banished, along with her commander, the legendary Colonel Peaceful Samson, to patrol the fringes of the Intercept, a great grass sea that borders the edge of the civilized world.  But a new power, mysterious as it is brutal, is rising in the west, and its goal is to eradicate every remnant of the First World.  It will fall to Rin and those she can rally to her cause to defend a world already vanished from a nightmarish future.

The Scarlet is set in a post-apocalyptic pre-industrial landscape where humans genetically modified by a civilization now lost struggle to preserve and rebuild their world.  Soldiers, witches, outlaws, and prophets traverse a rich western tapestry where trust is the only real currency left.
