I’ve worked in Information Technology departments across a variety of industries since 1994, first as a statistical analyst, developer, business systems analyst, and now technical writer. Since 1998, I have worked as a consultant on a contract basis in IT departments for many clients in various industries; including health care, insurance, finance, banking, and marketing.
Because the work is temporary, clients aren’t amenable to consultants wanting “time off”, as we are there for a specific timeframe and when the project ends, the professional relationship ends. I’m paid by the hour, sometimes without benefits, and always without promise of permanent work.
