Pies and Pastries - Buttermilk Pie
Series Info | Table of Contents
A traditional Amish recipe, buttermilk pie has long been a favorite in our family. It is usually requested for holiday meals and has replaced the traditional pumpkin pie as a dessert favorite.
With flaky crust and a custard type filling, the pie is just the right amount of sweetness. Because of it's easy, mild flavor it is great when paired with fruits and whipping cream. It is perfect in itself with no extras, which is the way we prefer it.
Ingredients:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400
2. In a large bowl, mix together the eggs and sugar. Whisk them until they are well blended. Add the remaining ingredients and whisk them until they are blended well with the eggs and sugar. Pour finished mixture into pie crust.
3. Bake about 10 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350 and continue to bake for about 30 to 40 minutes. The pie will be a light golden and still be a little loose and jiggly. It will set and firm up as it rests.
