I looked at my phone, seeing that I had four texts from Silvana, as well as a voicemail from Alan. I clicked to listen to the voicemail:
“Marcy, its Alan,” he said, his usually jovial voice now solemn, “was just calling to check up on you. I was surprised to get a call from your sister. I think she’s very concerned about you. Anyway, just give me a call if you want to talk. I’ll have you in my prayers.”
After stopping at a red light, I looked at the text messages. The first one just asked if I could come over to talk about funeral arrangements.
