I’d already missed it. Whatever Mike had been planning to do, it must have happened today. I wanted to text back, but the car in front of me moved forward. It wasn’t too much further to my apartment. The image of Mike’s symbol filled paper kept coming to mind, but my thoughts were racing, trying to figure out what it could have been that happened.

Something caught my eye. A red shape in my rearview mirror. I looked, trying to see what it was, but a small truck was blocking my view. The line of vehicles ahead of me crept forward.
